PANELS SET UP ON X-RAY SCANNERS, CHICKEN BROILER PRODUCTS AND RENEWABLE ENERGY EQUIPMENT
On 20 January 2012, the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) established three panels: one to review anti-dumping duties imposed by China on EU X-ray scanners, one on China’s anti-dumping and countervailing measures on US chicken broiler products and one to review measures applied by Canada in its renewable energy sector. It also adopted the panel and Appellate Body reports which reviewed the Philippines’ tax regime on distilled spirits.

WTO ADOPTS DISPUTE PANEL REPORT ON US/VIET NAM SHRIMP CASE
WTO members meeting as the Dispute Settlement Body on 2 September 2011 adopted the dispute panel report examining anti-dumping measures imposed by the US on certain frozen warm water shrimp from Viet Nam and the use of “zeroing”, a technique for calculating the extent of dumping.

ITEMS PROPOSED FOR CONSIDERATION AT THE NEXT MEETING OF DISPUTE SETTLEMENT BODY
The WTO Secretariat has circulated a meeting notice and list of items proposed for the next meeting, on  2 September 2011, of the Dispute Settlement Body, which consists of all WTO members and oversees legal disputes among them. The meeting notice is circulated in the form of a document officially called an “airgram”.

PANEL REPORT OUT ON DISTILLED-SPIRITS DISPUTE
The WTO, on 15 August 2011, issued the report of the panel that had examined complaints by the European Union and the United States regarding “Philippines – Taxes on distilled spirits” (DS396 and DS403).
